Type Locality and Naming

Along Gharadar, Susyztau, Southwest Gissar. V.V. Kurbatov used the name G.sv., proposed by N.V. Beznosov for the Baysun-Adamtash inter-reef zone (462, p.46), and unified the name Gardarinian suite for all inter-reef zones. Stratotype in the section of Aksu at the pass Chardara, Susyztau, Y.-3. Gissar.

Synonym: Gardarinian Suite, Capping Anhydrite member of Gaurdak Fm, Upper Anhydrite Suite, Upper Salt Suite, Middle Anhydrite member of Gaurdak Fm, Lower Salt member of Gaurdak Fm, Lower Anhydrite member of Gaurdak Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Divided into two subsuites.

Upper subsuite - gypsum (anhydrites) with rare layers of limestones. Thickness 70-100 m.

Lower subsuite - interbedding of gypsum (anhydrites) and limestones. Thickness up to 100 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Upper subsuite – Lies conformably on the lower subsuite. Lower subsuite - Lies conformably or with erosion (over reefs) on the Kugitang Fm

Upper contact

Upper subsuite – is overlain with erosion by the Karabil Fm or Shirkensk Fm. Lower subsuite - is overlain with apparent conformity by the upper subsuite of the Gardarinian Fm.

Regional extent

Southwestern Gissar, its southern slope, Mechetli, wells of the Bukhara-Karshinsky region and Turkmenistan. The facies analogue of the Gardarin Fm are all suites of the Gaurdak Gr (without the cover anhydrites) of the Bukhara-Karshinsky region. V.V. Kurbatov, V.I. Troitsky (165, fig. 1-10). V.V. Kurbatov

Fossils

Upper subsuite – Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Parallelodon aff. lutugini Boriss., Chlamys mantochensis Et.

Lower subsuite - Contains ammonites - Lithococeras sp., Othetoceras sp.; marine bivalve mollusks - Camptonectes normalicus Rep., Plesiocyprina gissarensis Rep.; foraminifers - Karaisella sp.; ophiuroids and horseshoe crabs - Limulus.


Age 

The age of the upper subsuite is late Kimmeridgian - Tithonian. The age of the lower subsuite is determined as late Oxfordian - early Kimmeridgian.
